What Can You See

An English penpal of mine asked me in her first letter to tell her how the Sun was. This because she told me that England hardly sees any sun, and it would be nice to know that there's a place where you can actually see it. I looked around me, in the Glass Tower I work in, and I didn't see the Sun. I walked to the window with my phone and clicked a few frames for my friend.
It is a general mistaken idea in the minds of the North, that in here, close to the waist of the planet exists the land of the Eternal Sunshine, with white-sand beaches and aquamarine waters bursting of colorful fish. Well, no. Have you heard of "rainforests"? Well, why do you think the "rain" word is part of it? Because it needs rain, requires rain, rain is vital for it's existence. Thus these rainforests must grow on rain-rich lands, which brings us to conclude that these are, indeed, rain-rich lands. Ergo, you can't look out of the window and capture a picture of the Sun at any minute, except, maybe during the dry season, when the rain is much less often. However, well, right now we are deep in the rainy season, with sights like the one you can see in the picture to the left.

Out of Hyne knows what impulse, I started taking pictures from different angles, taking advantage of one of the perks of being forced to spend 9,6 hours of my day in this Glass Tower. These are some of the pictures I kept taking.

Then, yesterday as I was talking to a coworker of mine, a HUGE, BLACK column of smoke rose in the horizon, freigteningly thick. In seconds, like any morbid, metiche Latin, I ran to the window with my phone, and was closely followed by the closeby colleagues. Not even an earthquake moves that many people that fast. Quite scared, we, and people from other departments, gathered at the window trying to guess what was burning.

People from all over the floor suddenly gathered both in fear and morbid fascination, staring at the thick tube of smoke reaching high, thickening before our eyes rising like some sort of skyscrapper distorting the view. Then, out of the blue, in the silent view, an explotion of hisses from the gathered viewers anounced a new addition to the black smoke. As the column fattened visibly, from time to time huge flames sneaked between the crevices of the bubbly black. Higher than the buildings around, dark orange and red snakes that strangely had none of their natural glow. Flat, matte coloured fast fingers flared up vomiting thick gobs of more black smoke.

I clicked a few frames and soon tens of phones pulled out for the amateur reporter-on-the-road. Calls were placed to make sure loved ones were not in the vicinity, that they were sound and safe, and once that was stated, with morbid pleasure the spectacle was shared. Something is burning, and is burning BIG!

In the end it turned out to be the warehouse of a paint making company, whose warehouse - the same warehouse - burned out the same way in 2003. One would have thought they had learned their lesson.

I do intend to catch for her a few happy gimpses of Sun, so that maybe she can place her fingers on the image and get a bit of the heat it radiates down to the people, but those will be saved for a further post.

Pictures of My History

If you follow Dragonfly's blog (and you should, even if you can't read Spanish, trust me, th pictures are simply amazing!), you would know about the Friday's "Pictures with History" section, where she shows scanned pictures of her and her family from the past century. You know, from the good ol' days, from the days of real American Cars, wholesome families, morals, values, the flag, the Home, the day the music died and all that. Well, it happens that there are some pictures of my Mom and my Dad that are simply so beautiful I was overcome with this intense egotistical feeling to share them only to make people envious ^_^. And so, after so much thinking, and pondering, yesterday I grabbed one of the photo albums and brought it here, where I scanned some of the pictures to share with you all.

You see, for me my Mom is just beautiful, even now, but the pictures of her young are downright breathtaking. So I'll leave you now with the pictures.

This is a picture of Mom, my aunt and their best friend at Balatonalmádi. You look at this picture and you immediatelly think: "Wow! Hotties!" And they were! Hungarian women are definitively gorgeous. ^_^ Good I'm one too!

That's not my Mom, that's my Aunt, and the thin refugee looking dude is my Dad. My brother is just as bony too. Now Dad put on some weight, but that was him, eating normally.

Regarding my Aunt, I have had always the feeling that she has some princess like quality about her features. Mom is more like the fair maiden in the romance verses of the Middle Age, like Ximena from the Mio Cid, but my Aunt is like the beautiful princess from the Grimm fairy tales.

This is my favorite picture of my Mom. Dad took this at the Margit Island. Isn't she simply marvelous? Oh, and that's all her real hair, in case you think she was using a wig. Nope, that's all my beautiful, beautiful Mom. *filled to the brim with pride*

This is my Mom as a bride...

and these are my folks at their wedding picture. For me they both look just dreamlike! (Yes, that hottie in black is the same refugee drift you saw in the picture with my Princess Aunt.) I do have good looking parents!

Then now come the pictures where Yours Truly appears for the first time. No, no early Baby Playboy pictures! (Kari asked me the same thing, but I won't be showing those, specially because I was constantly throwing temper tantrums .... yeah, still do.) So here I come.

Mom and I at the hospital, the day I was born... or around those days (June 30th, 1976. Ahhh, wasn't that the best day of the world?). Yep, I was born with a huge, thick mane of hair that never fell off. Brother and I have always had this "Lion King" look.

Ah, family! Lemme see: those are from left to right my Maternal grandmother's dad, my Maternal Grandmother (from whom I've got my name) my Maternal grandmother's mom, my Mom, me (the thingie wrapped in white) my Paternal grandmother, my Dad and my Paternal grandfather. This was the only time my Costa Rican grandfolks went to Hungary.

This is my Mom's Mom and I. She was an amazing person and a great doctor. She had an extraordinary sense of humor and was always very passionate. Dad says I have her laugher and some of our facial expressions are very alike.

And this is my Mom and I. My Mom loves me a lot! ^_^ Funny how my Mom looks so loving, and so beautiful and I have this "what the hell are you looking at? Do I look like charity to you? Beat it, dude!" look, or maybe a "yeah, yeah, I love you too, but you know what would make me love you more? A glass of coke" look. Hahahaha!

I've a great family. :-)

Like Our Friend Lobotomy

This is Lobotomy, a purple sheep that sits in my desk at the office. As you can see, he has a lot of things going on in his head. Have you ever felt like him? I'm sure you have.

I'm not writing much today, or at least not right now, but I'll post some random pictures.

You see, I have a picture at the office that always makes me smile, and reminds me that it's not all about work, but also about vacations!

It's time to go score some lunch. This means today to go pay one card, buy mom's present and find something good for lunch. So what would it be today? Subway? KFC? Taco Bell? Sushi? Hmmm, so many options and all of them so tasty!

I guess I'm pulling out my trusty cotton bag, my Vonnegut book, my journal, a pen, my wallet, and I'll hit the road!

Have a nice day, everybody!

I Drawing I Made

Today I wrote another letter to Dragonfly, intending to mail in the afternoon, but didn't get it the Post Office in time. Like in many letters, I often sign making a little drawing that represents me. Sometimes I draw cat ears or bunny ears (since one of my nicknames is Bunny). This time, though, it kinda got me thinking, since I wanted to change my Twitter image for something other than my picture (I don't like people on Twitter, where evidently people doesn't care enough to read more than 140 letters, to know my face), I though, why not to do the drawing for my Avatar?

So, I made it, filtered it, Photoshopped it up a little, and, well, there you go. ^_^ Amateurish, but 100% me.

Hair Matters - Again

Today I took a small trip down Memory Lane while looking at old pictures of mine, most of them from the time I used my hair short. The whole things started with me trying to find a picture of Roo, Lau and myself posing next to a giant Hello Kitty. The picture is still missing, but instead I found a great load of pictures, most of which I posted already in my Hungarian blog. (So sorry, but I think I won't repost here. Well, maybe a few ^_^)

The point, as I brownsed through the pics yesterday, was to see a few of my hairstyles through... well, not the times, but actually my college years and a few years after. It was somewhat like a post Dragonfly did where she shone from black hair to blond to redhead. Well, I went from short to half curly chin lenght to blonde wig to long. Then I realized that I also went from bony not "thanks Hyne I'm healthy". Interestingly it was during my working years that I became short from skeleton.

There's this picture of me with a blonde wig (coz' I'll never do THAT to my real hair... well, I think), and my shoulderblade actually STICKS OUT OF MY BACK! I remember back then I was so selfconscious because if I as much as hunched my back, my ribs stuck out. I always found such levels to skinniness downright hineous. Well, thanks Hyne and the All Mighty Coca-Cola, I'm no longer a bag of bones. ^_^

When it comes to hair, I love, love, LOVE short hair, which is why the only kind of wigs I love to try out and love to buy (though so far I only have one) are the short ones, or max. shoulder lenght ones. I know I look better with long hair, and I like my hair long, save when it's hot ot humid and I can't put my mane on someone elses's head. Then, it's incredibly annoying when you are sleeping, particularly with someone else, because your hair seems to be EVERYWHERE!

Hair gives us a look, though it is important to say that hair doesn't give us a personality, but it sure allows some sides of yourself get more or less exposed. After all, your hairdo is an expression of yourself!

I've this particular thing about remembering parts of movies I either haven't seen complete or never cared enough to remember whole. Well, there's this movie with Darryl Hannah, some clear eyed handsome actor and a brunette girl that played a French girl. They meet at some vacations in Greece. Darryl sports her long beautiful blonde hair, and this girl has a shiny, stylish brunette hairdo that suddenly looks Darryl's hair look messy and plain, if not downright boring and peasant. Either they ask her about her hair or the French girl tells it by herself, but the point is that she says that she cuts her hair each time she breaks up with a boyfriend.

The idea somewhat stuck with me: let your hair express the changes you go through. If you have had long hair and cut is short, you must know that feeling of freedom, of breaking loose. It's a lost, a departure, but also freedom, independence, like breaking up from chains that have weighted on you for so long. letting your hair grow, though, after cutting it short for a long time carries a feeling of revolution, of starting something new, of investment, of a project: you embarch on something that will demand your time, your patience, your effort, like watching a three grow. The expectation of how long will it grow, how long will it take, what will it look like, what will you be able to do with it...

Then, when we look back in time, pictures in hand, we can smile and remember what it was like when we were that young and wore that hair and those clothes. ^_^

Eye Spa, Mind Yoga, Soul Soothing

You know, a blog shouldn't be only about sharing your thoughts and believes and stuff like that, and telling the world how much you loath this or that person, but it should be a place where you share stuff you like. So I thought I'll share a few pictures I like, which my friends have sent me. Unlike you'd think, they are not all about Supernatural.

Enjoy.

Degas - Dancer. He's definitivelly one of my favorite artists of all times.

Mucha - The Moon. My favorite artist, irrefutably.

Lalique - Peacock brosch. Without question my favotire jewelry maker and, let's call it "pret-a-porter" artist.

Guitar player - I don't like guitars, but some guitar players I like.

... I told you I like some guitar players... even if they don't shave, which I suddenly find so arounsing...

Unfortunatelly I can't find my recent pictures of Hyperion, so I guess this will be it. You see, there's not much "Supernatural", but more like "Lots of Natural" in stead. Not like anyone would be interested in checking out the Supernatural boys now. Sorry kids, pubic hair and guitars beat you every time.

(Yes, that's young Jensie. Doesn't he look just cute? Wouldn'y ou just eat him alive? More Sammy than our actual Sam. ^_^ Hell, this is why I love this kid!)

It's Eastern!

Happy Eastern to all of you, boys and girls! Many of you are going back to work today, but I ain't! I still have one week of happiness! Weee-hee!! Then back to the mines, with all of you, but even so, I had this year an extra gout of fresh, lovely, homely air. My dear friend Dragonfly rightfully demanded some pictures on my blog. Well, she's absolutely right: I'm traveling on far-far away lands, where the sun shines different and the air has a taste of ancient, and yet I have shared not even one picture with you. So I was thinking, I should give you a few pics. Problem is that I actually have very few pics, since I've been engaged in... other activities different than taking pictures, you mind.

Well, this picture to the right is Kari and I in front of the Kunsthistorische Muzeum in Wien, where we went to score my glass of candy... but there was not, soe we were "stuck" staring at the art of the Italian Masters. I can't get enough of Tizian, I tell you. The kid we asked to make the picture concentrated more on the building than on us, which is why you can't see our feet. Those two days in Wien were great. Well, what can I tell you? Wien is a wonderful city to visit, even if they are boarding up the entire city because they pick that precise moment to refurbish the whole shebang. Why can't they do the remodelations little by little?

We really, didn't made that many picture... I think we made two more, goofy pictures and that was it. But if you want, I'll share with you one of them, for all of you to have a good laugh at it. Here we are posing as "celebrities".

Hehehehe... Well, maybe more like blinds than celebrities, but that's the point.

There's also a fresh picture I want to share with all of you, one I just took. It's a picture of our first "common asset", which is a plant.

I saw it and I wanted it. Kari doesn't have any plants that have flowers, only greens, and I find that a bit darkening and depressing, so I asked him if we could get one (because in a week it will be his responsability, and we won't be living here, so the plant should be moved eventually... and moved by him, you mind), and he said it was okay. So I went to this tiny flowershop on the corner of the Márvány street and the Királyhágó and choose it among the selection of other plants there. First of all, it's not blue, it's purple. I call it Sunshine, and talk to it in English constantly. Hopefully it will bloom a lot and grow pretty and strong. I'm not much of a gardener, but I really like Sunshine.

Now, if you don't mind, I'll go wash the Keraflex out of my hair and change, because we have to be at Kari's Mom's place in... 30 minutes. ^_^

Noseless

Second comment on my picture: "Dude, I can't see you nose!" Geez man, why do you want to see my nose? Do you have a nose fetiche? Maybe wanna check it out, was I doing coke or something? You wanna show it to the doc and ask for a carbon copy of the same? The picture is an artistical filtering, so accentuate the eyes. I call this particular piece "The Eyes of Burana". No idea what a burana is? It's one fucking hell snow storm. And why burana? You ask too much.

Before you ask, because you would, yes, my boyfriend is in town and we are having a great time together. I'm learing things from him, about him that mesmerize me. It awes me the way he's so strong and so determinated. There's like a long fibre going across his self that ties up everything inside him into a pattern that might not be aparent to the naked eye, but which is... bedazzling. I'm in a whirlpool here. Swirling deeper and deeper into the core of his trap, drowning in him. If I am a witch, he's the tempting demon I've made a pact with. ^_^

You know me, I rather don't repeat topics through my blogs, BUT this is one you, my not-Hungarian-speaking darlings, deserve to know.

Work is going smooth... maybe because Mr.B ain't here. I believe tomorrow it's gonna be annoying. Hyne, why can't I have a decent boss in this enterprise? Ever since my days in Mobile all my superiors suck. I'm a bit in the limbo, work-wise. I do keep writing down my tasks of the day on the calendar and cross them out when I complete them, but the noise Mr.B has introduced fucks up my system. It displeases me not to have a clear path, a clear goal, and furthermore, to go on the steps of a scrambled mind that wouldn't be able to connect A to B. Anyway, that's a problem we all know much too well.

My friend Dragonfly is back from her journey in the land of the Aztecs. Have not heard the briefing of all her adventures on the Land of the Sun King and the richness of history weaved with thick, scented blood. Give her time, soon she will partake the secrets of ancient lands of wisdom. I missed her.

I'm talking with Shimmy Gin about meeting with him in these days so he can meet Kari. I guess we are do for tomorrow at a place famous for it's Piňa Coladas. I"m not much of a "Piňa Colada" kind of drinker, but I sure can give it a shot. hey, if it has alcohol it can only be good.

I was supposed to re-start reading something or pick up a new book or continue reading something, but I kinda didn't. Well, now I have better things to do... save that I feel I'm not being as good a hostess as I should. I should really pay more attention to my Kari.

Oh well, me going... should be working, and that depresses me. (I could think of a lot of things I would rather do right now, specially since I have someone with me on whom to perform them... ^_^)
